The Death of the Living Room

It was great to be quoted by Lee Harper, a journalist for The Guardian, in an article exploring the so-called “death of the living room.” Funnily enough, it’s a topic that resonates with me personally. It was one of the reasons I eventually left London. I found myself living in a city where space was always at a premium, and every square metre had to work twice as hard.
What’s interesting, though, is that I now see the opposite problem outside London. Many homes have an abundance of space, yet it’s often poorly used. Rooms are oversized without purpose, circulation becomes confused, and the spaces that should matter most end up feeling compromised.
For me, it all comes back to being thoughtful and deliberate with how we shape our homes. Whether compact or generous, good design is about making space work and not just making more of it.
